2007-2008 Boy Scout Programs

Cub Scouts are invited to explore space science while attending this workshop at Longway Planetarium on the Flint Cultural Center Campus. Boys participate in activities that will help them earn their Astronomy Belt Loop and Academics Pin. Activities include:

  • Learn how a telescope works
  • Identify constellations, planets and the North Star
  • Talk to an Astronomer
  • View a planetarium show
  • Learn to read a star map
  • Recieve a certificate of completion

Scout groups can sign up now for this unique opportunity, held on the following dates:

  • 2008-2009 dates will be available August, 2008

Webelos Camp-In
**2008-2009 dates will be available August, 2008**
Webelos are invited to explore the world of science while spending the night at Longway Planetarium. Scouts will participate in activities that will help them earn the Scientist Activity Badge*. Activities include:

  • Learn about Newton’s Laws of Motion, Bernoulli’s Principle and Pascal’s Law
  • See a demo on the effects of atmospheric, air and water pressure
  • Build and launch an indoor rocket
  • See a planetarium show
  • Earn the Astronomy Belt Loop
  • Receive a certificate of completion

*Scouts will still need to earn the Science Belt Loop if they have not already done so.

Brownie Girl Scouts are invited to join in the fun of exploring and learning about the stars and planets while attending this workshop at Longway Planetarium on the Flint Cultural Center Campus. Girls will complete the Space Explorer Try-It by participating in the following activities*:

  • See a program in the planetarium
  • Learn how to be a Star Maker
  • Get Ready, Set, Jet
  • Recieve a certificate of completion

Troops can sign up now for this unique opportunity, held on the following dates:

  • 2008-2009 Dates will be available August, 2008

Junior Girl Scouts are invited to join in the fun of exploring and learning about the stars and planets while attending this workshop at Longway Planetarium on the Flint Cultural Center Campus. Girls will complete the Sky Search Badge by participating in the following activities*:

  • Learn how to use a star map and make a star finder
  • Learn which of the nine planets are visible to the naked eye
  • Find out why being able to locate the North Star is important
  • Learn stories from two or more modern or ancient cultures
  • See a program in the planetarium
  • Receive a certificate of completion

Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Camp In
2008-2009 Dates will be available August, 2008
Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts are invited to join in the fun of exploring and learning about the stars and planets while attending the Camp-In at Longway Planetarium on the Flint Cultural Center Campus.

Girls will participate in activities that fulfill requirements for the Space Exploration interest project including constructing a flying object, watching a planetarium show, building a telescope, exploring space science careers, watching a classic sci-fi movie and more!
