Cub Scouts

Astronomy
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: November 6, 2010, February 12 & March 12, 2011
Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm
This 3 hour workshop at Longway Planetarium will help Cub Scouts fulfill some requirements for their Astronomy Belt Loop and Academics Pin. Activities include creating a model of the Solar System, learning about constellations, a star show, learning how a telescope works, and more.

Webelos Camp-In

Geologist
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: Jan 21, Apr 29, 2011
Time: 5:00pm - 9:00am
Explore Longway Planetarium after hours and participate in hands-on activities that will help Webelos Scouts fulfill requirements towards their Geologist Badge. Boys will discover what our Earth is made of while examining different rocks and minerals and how they are used in our everyday lives. Campers will also investigate volcanoes, make a fossil cast, polish a Petoskey Stone, and take a collection of specimens home. The evening will be capped off with a planetarium show.

Brownie Girl Scouts

Space Explorer
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: Jan 29, Feb 26, Mar 19, 2011
Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm
Brownie Girl Scouts are invited to join in the fun of exploring and learning about the stars and planets. Girls will complete the Space Explorer Try-It by seeing a program in the planetarium, learning how to be a Star Maker and more.

Science Wonders *new program*
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: Nov 13, 2010; Mar 26, 2011
Time: Noon – 3:00pm
Girls will be amazed at the science wonders they will make happen in this all-new workshop! Scouts will complete the Science Wonders Try-It by growing their own rock crystals, making their own paper, and more. Planetarium show included.

Junior Girl Scouts

Sky Search
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: Mar 5, 2011
Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm
Junior Girl Scouts are invited to join in the fun of exploring and learning about the stars and planets Girls will complete the Sky Search Badge by learning how to use a star map and make a star finder, which of the nine planets are visible to the naked eye and finding out why being able to locate the North Star is important.

Aerospace
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: Feb 5, Apr 16, 2011
Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm
Junior Girl Scouts prepare to take off! Girls will complete the Aerospace Badge by making a variety of planes, gliders, and kites. Then, sample astronaut food and head into the darkness to see planetarium show, “Celebration of Flight.”
